In January 2006, the University of Maryland School of Public Policy began to offer the Executive Master of Public Management Program, leading to a Master of Public Management degree. Now beginning its next cohort in Fall 2015, this degree program allows participants to take classes on Friday afternoons and Saturdays and receive their masters degree in 15 months, while still continuing to contribute and grow within their organizations and agencies. In addition, this program features top tier faculty, many of whom have served at the highest level of government under federal, state, and municipal administrations. Our faculty are dedicated to sharing and developing the tools and knowledge vital to the growth of the next generation of public leaders. Using Washington, DC as a backdrop, your access to federal institutions and their resources are constant throughout the program.
As an Executive Master Program degree candidate, you will follow a carefully designed, 30-credit curriculum that provides the frameworks and tools that you, as a public sector leader, require to effectively and responsibly define, evaluate, and choose among competing policy options. Moving beyond traditional pre-career public policy program offerings, the Executive Master Program curriculum assumes a far richer understanding of organizational and political processes and presents more sophisticated management issues that are rarely touched upon in similar degree programs.
The Executive Master of Public Management Program is designed for students with at least five years of public management and policy-related experience. As a degree candidate, you will move through the curriculum as a member of a cohort which will afford you the opportunity to establish and cultivate lasting academic and professional connections within a diverse and highly motivated group of your peers. You will find that the program stresses discussion over lecture and offers a rare blend of courses designed to provide traditional public management skills with courses that emphasize innovative, ethically responsible, and results-oriented leadership.
