The Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative in Advocacy for Children, Youth and Families

Every child deserves to be healthy, joyful, and safe. Every young person needs to be growing and learning in a secure, nurturing home and community. In the United States today, millions aren’t.
• Almost one quarter of the nation’s children under age 18 live in poverty.
• Fewer than half of poor preschoolers have access to Head Start programs.
• Nearly 20 percent of children live in homes that at some point every year rate as food insecure.

The late Karabelle Pizzigati devoted her career to helping those actively engaged in social services better impact the public policies that shape the futures of our young people and their families. This Institute created in her honor aims to give people passionate about those futures the skills, confidence, and connections that can make for effective advocacy.

The Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative in Advocacy for Children Youth and Families builds a pipeline of informed, effective advocates through teaching, training, and applied research that includes students, social service professionals and volunteer advocates, and resources for advocacy campaigns and teaching.
