Students from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy embarked on a study journey to three major cities in China during 2016 spring break. This is an opportunity for students to know about and reflect upon the rapidly changing China philanthropic landscape, gaining insights of Chinese social enterprises, grassroots organizations and volunteerism through in-person visits and professional meetings with a variety of NGOs. Students had six weeks of intensive academic coursework ahead of the trip, and three summer fellowships emerged from this, with funding from the Henry Luce Foundation, where SPP students worked with Chinese foundations or research organizations during summer 2016 in keeping with the school's desire to deepen students' international experiences.
