Biographical Information
Nathan Hultman is director of the Environmental Policy Program at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, and Associate Director of the Joint Global Change Research Institute, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His research focuses on international climate policy, carbon markets, and private sector decisions to undertake low-carbon energy technology investments. Dr Hultman’s major current projects include an assessment of low-carbon investment decisions in Brazil, India, Tanzania, and South Africa; an investigation into low-carbon energy transitions in Brazil, Sweden, and the US; and an investigation of the PV and wind industries in four emerging economies.
Dr Hultman has participated in the UN climate process since the Kyoto meeting and has attended and presented at subsequent negotiations and advisory sessions. He is a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Renewable Energy. Before joining the University of Maryland, he held a faculty appointment at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. From 2006-2007, he was a visiting Fellow the Institute for Science, Innovation, and Society (InSIS) and the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at Oxford University. Dr Hultman earned a B.A. in Physics from Carleton College and a Ph.D. in Energy & Resources from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a nonresident fellow of the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.
