William J. Lahneman

Senior Research Fellow
Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM)

Dr. Lahneman has held academic positions as Associate Chair of the Political Science Department at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Adjunct Professor at Towson University. He has consulted on energy and environmental security issues for the World Bank, the US government, and the private sector. His personal research interests include the future of intelligence analysis; homeland security; military intervention and post-conflict nation building; and the application of international relations theory to American foreign policy.

A former career naval officer, Commander Lahneman, U.S. Navy (retired), served as a Surface Warfare Officer in a number of combatant ships in both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets. In addition to his duties aboard ship, CDR Lahneman held subspecialties in International Negotiations, Strategic Planning, and Nuclear Propulsion.

Dr. Lahneman holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), an MA in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a BS with Distinction from the United States Naval Academy.
