Environmental Policy Roundtable
Schedule Index
The Environmental Policy Roundtable
meets every Friday from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m., in Room 1113 (MSPP
Student Lounge) on the first floor of the Maryland School of
Public Policy, Van Munching Hall, University of Maryland, College
Park.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide
interested people with a forum for learning about and discussing
current topics in Ecological Economics and associated disciplines
(environmental, social and economic policy, engineering, development,
conservation, etc.). We seek to promote cross-disciplinary dialogue
so we can hear perspectives that add to our understanding of
issues we care about. Many students and, yes, even occasionally
faculty come from: ENGR, AREC, BEES, BMGT, CONS, GEOG, GVPT,
MEES, PUAF, and other programs.
The Environmental Policy Roundtable
is offered as a 1 credit seminar for graduate students: "Development:
Ecology, Economics, Ethics" (MEES 608N). People
who register for credit usually are working toward masters or
doctoral degrees in the following areas: Natural Resources, Sustainable
Development, Environmental and/or Economic Modeling, Renewable
Resource Management, Conservation Biology, Environmental Policy,
Social Policy, Geography, and Agricultural Economics, to name
a few. Ecological Economics is all about integrating people's
interests and knowledge in a variety of fields outside their
own. There are no formal requirements for taking the course apart
from showing up and participating in discussions.
In addition to outside speakers (non-UMCP
folks), EESG members and seminar participants occasionally talk
about topics they are working on or are just fascinated by. You
- yes you - are very much welcome to tell us about a subject
that you think is fun and might interest people.
If you think you might enjoy
giving a talk or have an idea for a speaker you might convince
to come, please speak up at the next seminar or send an e-mail
to us at policy.ecolecon@gmail.com.
You may also be interested in attending
the the CISSM Forum (Center for International and Security Studies
at Maryland). The CISSM/ISEP/Development
Circle Forum is a weekly brown bag discussion group for
those in the University community interested in international
issues and meets on Thursdays, 12:15 - 1:30 pm.
The EESG seminar is funded in part by
your Graduate Student Activities Fee and is therefore open to
the entire Graduate Student Community.
