Fall 2007

Cohort Two
PUAF 711: Managing Public Organizations is set to begin on Monday, September 10th and conclude by December 19th. Class sessions are scheduled for Monday evenings from 5:30-8:00pm. PUAF 711 will be led by Patricia McGinnis, President and CEO of the Coucnil for Excellence in Government.

Cohort Two
PUAF 698T: Managing Across Sectors: Public, Private, and Non-Profit is set to begin on Wed., August 29th and conclude by December 19th. Class sessions are scheduled for Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:00pm. PUAF 698T will be led by Scott Fosler, faculty at the Maryland School of Public Policy.

Evening of Excellence: Preparing for the Senior Executive Service: Part two of series

Description: If you have aspirations to become a Senior Executive Member then please join the Council for Excellence in Government for the second session of our two part series. In our first session, Ms. Quay Crowner focused on the challengesfaced by the SES and the process for approving their selection. Our special guest Ms. Carol Harvey will go deeper into how to develop and describe your capabilities so that they map to the executive core qualifications. She will also discuss the value of cross-functional assignments and how these contribute to the success of an SES candidate. You need not have attended the first session to attend this session and find value.
About the speaker:Carol Harvey formerly worked for OPM in the SES Executive Resources program office for 18 years, where she administered OPM SES Qualification Review Boards which reviewed agency actions and processes and approved SES applicants for appointment. She also conducted briefings for new SES members. She currently conducts leadership programs and counsels SES candidates on the application and approval process as an independent consultant.

About the speaker:Dr. Carol Pearson is currently the Director of the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership and a Professor of Leadership Studies in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland College Park.
